I am extremely concerned to hear that two hectares of GM potatoes are to be planted in Oat Park Carlow.
My main concern is for our reputation as a producer of clean green foods, particularly in the European market. Regardless of precautions taken to prevent cross pollination and so on, once GM products are introduced it will not be possible to say is Ireland is GM free anymore
We must ask then, what will be the net benefit to farmers and the overall economy? It would seem very little. On the other hand, biotechnological firms, who have been behind the push for GM crops at a European level, stand to profit hugely should their patented GM crops be widely introduced.
I started this Blog to get out of my system the absolute rage that I have for the corrupt politicians and their Banker Buddies. I’m an ordinary guy, married with kids, and have firm opinions of what is right and what is wrong. I’m not afraid to say it even when it makes me unpopular.
