Last Saturday I got a tip from a friend to go and visit a venue called
the Shebeen Chic.

What was different about this place was it was been shut down by the landlords
who are looking for a massive increase in the rent.21 people are about to loose their
jobs and I understand some of them are sleeping in the premises every night .The
Irish Independent carried the story last week and I am informed it’s only a
matter of time before the sheriff arrives and the place is closed with the loss
of all those jobs.
The Tenant is the victim of the current government’s lack of urgent
action on upward only leases and commercial rents. Having heard firsthand the
story from the Tenant and his Manager I
am astounded that this type behavior is allowed to go on in Ireland .It would
appear a man’s business is been taken away from him in spite of the fact he is paying the agreed
rent and is fully paid up. As this matter is still in the process of negotiation
I probably should refrain from saying anymore .
Needleless to say if you are in the area please do go in and support the
staff by buying a drink.

About machholz
I started this Blog to get out of my system the absolute rage that I have for the corrupt politicians and their Banker Buddies. I’m an ordinary guy, married with kids, and have firm opinions of what is right and what is wrong. I’m not afraid to say it even when it makes me unpopular.
I reproduce news all manner of articles, but will always confirm the source of the articles; this is a compliment to the source of such news pieces. But if you do not agree with this and you are the original author, I will take down any article when requested to do so. I do not assume that the author of the news articles share with my views, I include news articles to give readers another slant to my views or to illustrate what the mainstream news media say on the relevant topic.
The opinions expressed are my own but I do not accept liability for them, If I have offended you or made a factual error please put on record the truth by leaving a comment.
In addition, my thoughts and opinions change from time to time...I consider this a necessary consequence of having an open mind. This weblog is intended to provide a semi-permanent point in time snapshot and manifestation of the various memes running around my brain, and as such any thoughts and opinions expressed within out-of-date posts may not the same, nor even similar, to those I may hold today.
For the record I am currently an Independent political activist and am not affiliated to any political party

You almost had it right with “…I probably should refrain from saying anymore .” Since you only spoke to one side you weren’t qualified to say anything in the first place.
Thank you for your comment and you are right I am not “qualified”
And another blog that jumps up at the chance to defend Jay Bourke. Macholz, I hope you do a bit of research about the owner of this establishment and his nefarious past. This man fails to pay rent, taxes or his employees in various businesses he has owned. Perhaps you should research what he did to the Cafe Bar Deli staff. Sadly there didnt seem to be any blog posts or newspaper articles on the way they got shafted by Mr. Bourke. Please do not put any more money into this mans pockets.
I have never met Mr. Bourke until last Saturday and then only for twenty minutes at most .The manager of the establishment was the person I was speaking to and the points posted were presented to me by her and I am not defending him. I know too little about the man himself .I presented what appeared to me to be my main concern which is the lack of government action that would prevent this sort of thing happening and jobs getting lost in the process .Who or what Mr. Burke is ,of no relevance to me .In any case everybody is free to contribute to this article via the comments board .Thank you for your comment .
Shouldnt we be blaming the man who failed to pay his rent in a timely fashion? Lets look at it like this, old owner doesnt pay the rent, landlord loses money, people lose their jobs. New owner comes in, pays the rent(landlord makes money) and hires employees. Everyone is happy.
As far as the government “preventing this sort of thing happening” Its not their job to make sure business owners pay their bills. This entire situation rests on the shoulders of the people running Shebeen. What Shebeen is doing is exploiting peoples feelings towards the government and its treatment of the working class and using it towards their own gains. This situation could have been avoided by paying their bills on time.
